Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (Spoiler)

Hello readers 🙂

Yeah I know, I did the review part on my July wrap up for this one already but then I thought I should do some full review and spoilery part because why not? If you haven’t read my July wrap up review, that’s okay you’re still welcomed here because it’s going to be somewhat similar except for the spoilery section so without further a do let’s get started.

Author: Victoria Aveyard; Genre: Dystopian, YA; Type: E-book

This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.
The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.
That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.
Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.
But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart. – Goodreads

Okay, Where do I begin?
I don’t always read dystopian books but I do love dystopian books especially this one. I have regretted for not picking up this book earlier because it was splendid and phenomenal. You wouldn’t believe me how much this book had change my perception over dystopian books. I will never hesitate to pick another dystopian book anymore especially anything written by Victoria Aveyard. The writing of this book was simple, fast paced and utterly immersive. If it wasn’t because of my assignments I would have finished this book in one sitting I guess.

Red Queen can be read by anyone, no age limitation because it was clear and easy to understand. There was quite a lot of quote that has captivated my heart but I don’t wish to spoil you yet if you haven’t read this book. I totally loved all the characters in this story especially the main character. I found this book was kind of a girl power story as the main character was brave, fearless and strong from the very beginning of the story itself till the very end. It does inspire me in some way. This book contains so much of plot twist that has wrenched my heart where some part I even cried. The ending was unexpectedly so good and it will literally makes you to seek for the second book right after you finished this book. This book was better and a little similar to the Hunger Games Trilogy and Divergent series, if you liked any of these then I would highly recommend you to read Red Queen right immediately. OMG I love this book so freaking much.

-Mare is special (the lightning girl). She is not a normal person from red nor the Silver. She is beyond that. She has the ability of creating her own power. Besides, she is a great pickpocket and not forgetting how brave and courage she is.

-(Biggest Plot Twist) You all know how much Maven’s betrayal has hurt every readers. I wished as much as you did that this never happened. I did sense from the very beginning there will be a betrayal from either Cal or Maven. 😦

-Maven was everything a girl needs from her betrothed before his betrayal. He is the sweetest, smartest, understanding and most caring person you could ever find from this book but it never last long.

-Cal kissed Mare (First OTP from Red Queen). I thought Cal was in love with Mare for after all what he did for her *Emoji with heart eyes*. Getting her job over the Silver’s place, bringing her to visit her family in stilts so I was already shipping them both from the very beginning, but after Cal imprisoned mare for the escape and destruction, my heart was completely shattered.

-Kilorn risked his life joining the Red Scarlet. He allied with red’s to take down the Silver for no one but Mare. Mare rescued Killorn from the conscription of course. He would do anything for Mare didn’t he?

-Lucas’s death. 😦 I wished he never died. He was one of the generous person Mare had and I couldn’t accept the reason of his death. He was executed for nothing but Mare.

-Mare’s family, of course one of the best family you could ever have. They were always there for each other.

-Speaking of Julian, I was pleased at least there was someone who were on her side although he was a Silver. He did everything he could to help her understand the circumstances, taught her everything about the silvers, helped Mare rescue her friends and he was the only person Mare could trust her life with.

-Shade’s presence and knowing he has the same ability of Mare at the last chapter of Red Queen has astonished and impressed almost all the readers. So this is what I was talking about. The end, the feels, the urge of reading the second book. Victoria Aveyard did it well, she knew her readers.

  • “Red in the head, Silver in the heart”
  • “Rise, red as the dawn.”
  • “Anyone can betray anyone.”
  • “What I need and what I want are two very different things.”
  • “A lie will raise me up, and one day another lie will bring me down.”
  • “There are worse lives to live. Don’t feel sorry for me.”

Talk to you soon.
